Christmas commission of a beautiful child caught in a moment. Commissioned by her mother as a gift to her father. I have created pieces for them in the past of their first daughter Shelby, so it was a real pleasure to do this and show off my growth as an artist.
This was the first portrait that I completed following a 3 day colored pencil portrait workshop with Ann Kullberg. It really paid off and my technique definitely improved with this piece!
I also completed this one in RECORD time. Normally, it takes me about 1 to 3 weeks to complete a portrait. I did this one in 2.5 days!! I started it, didn't like how my background was coming, overworked the background to the point of no return, threw it into the trash, and started it over 3 days before Christmas!! I got virtually no sleep, but I completed it and the family fell in love with it.
This is 11x14" Prismacolor colored pencil for the hair and skin-tones, Caran D'Ache Luminance colored pencil for all remaining elements on 16x20" Strathmore 400 series drawing paper.
Here is a side by side comparison of the reference and this piece:
I would just like to say THANK YOU to everyone for the likes, watches, and comments. This was my first DD in over 6 years of being a member, so I am super excited.
This little girl was so adorable - it was simply a pleasure to work on this portrait.
Thanks again. UPDATE
